A stage play for actors and orchestra; music written by Andre Previn.  First performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the London Symphony Orchestra in the Royal Festival Hall, London (dir. Trevor Nunn) on July 1, 1977.  Revived with a chamber orchestra at the Mermaid Theatre, London (dir. Trevor Nunn) on June 14, 1978.  First US production at the Kennedy Center, Washington DC, in July, 1978 with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  First NYC production at the Metropolitan Opera House on July 30, 1979.  Revived at the Barbican Centre, London (dir. Trevor Nunn) on June 25, 1982 with the London Symphony Orchestra.
