Written in 1960. Adapted for television and broadcast on British ITV in November, 1963. Extensively rewritten (in German) for the stage as Old Riley geht über'n Ozean (Old Riley Walked the Water) at the Thalia Theatre, Hamburg in August, 1964. Revised in 1968 as Enter a Free Man.

Albert's Bridge
Adaptation of his 1967 radio play. First performed on stage by the Oxford Theatre Group (dir. Henry Murry) at St. Mary's Hall, Edinburgh on August 29, 1969 (with If You're Glad I'll Be Frank.) First London stage production at the King's Head Theatre (dir. Christopher Selbie) in 1976. Expanded with A. C. H. Smith and performed on the Fringe of the Edinburgh Festival in 1978. New York City premiere (with If You're Glad I'll Be Frank) was at the Intar Two Theatre (dir. Dennis Crowley) in November, 1987.

First London stage performance at the Young Vic (dir. Jeremy James Taylor) on November 23, 1976 (with The Real Inspector Hound). New York City premiere (with Albert's Bridge) was at the Intar Two Theatre (dir. Dennis Crowley) in November, 1987.
